Tobias Preisig (CH)
22 June 2023 - 21:10 - 21:50 | Studio NAVB

After performing for inJazz’s online edition in 2020, Swiss born violin player Tobias Preisig will finally play live in Rotterdam, as part of inJazz 2023.
His music explores the intersections of experimental, ambient and electronic music. Closer, Preisig’s second album, is a collection of detailed vignettes – compositions that have the feel of photos which were taken using multiple exposures. Closer is a very intimate work; not only in terms of subject matter, but also in how the violin is played and rendered. Preisig decided to explore a very simple question: what does the ordinary sound like? Or, in his own words, “what do you feel when you walk through your neighbourhood over and over again? How would you address that using sound? And, with that, articulate the true worth of something that you could just as easily take for granted.” Written and recorded at a makeshift home studio, Closer is melodic, light, uncomplicated, and connected in its feel. It’s a document of someone loving the place in life where they found themselves, literally and figuratively, and taking great pleasure in sharing it with the world.
Besides performing solo concerts, Tobias is touring with his electronica duo Egopusher in Europe and Asia. Her has played festivals such as Montreux Jazz, London Jazz, Jarasum Jazz South Korea and Tokyo Jazz Japan. He also plays with Levitation, a duo with Stefan Rusconi on church organ, exploring the richness of drones and noisemusic. Recent collaborations with Colin Stetson Sorrow, The Cinematic Orchestra, Youn Sun Nah and Jan Bang.
