Nawras Altaky Trio
Coming to you from the studios of the Concertzender / World of Jazz: Pocket Concerts. Featuring Nawras Altaky Trio in this edition.
The trio of Nawras Altaky – oud & vocals, Oene van Geel – violin, and Marianne Noordink – flute & ney combines Arabic maqam, improvisation, and elements of jazz and classical music in a unique cross-cultural style.
Syrian-Dutch musician Nawras Altaky, City Composer of Utrecht in 2025, is known for his work at festivals such as North Sea Jazz, Grachtenfestival, and November Music. Oene van Geel, a versatile violinist, received the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize in 2013, along with awards including the Deloitte Jazz Award, the Kersjes Prize, and the Dutch Jazz Competition. Marianne Noordink performs internationally on flute and ney, often collaborating with the Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest, with a special affinity for blending classical and Arabic traditions. Together, they create a trio that listens, explores, and tells stories through sound, rhythm, and expression.
