Dutch vocalist-composer Sara Bax is joined by flugelhorn master Angelo Verploegen and cellist-composer Joshua Herwig in a unique trio that marries the lyrical, the jazz-inflected and the classically rooted. Their latest collaboration appears on the album She’s the Poem (Challenge Records, 2025) — a collection of ten poetic portraits featuring Van Vliet (piano), Herwig (cello) and Verploegen (flugelhorn) alongside Bax’s voice. Verploegen, a veteran of European jazz big bands, brings his signature warm horn tones. Herwig is a prize-winning young cellist/composer whose ensembles and solo work cross classical, jazz and folk boundaries. Together they create an intimate sound world that invites you to listen closely and feel connection.
