The legendary Instant Composers Pool celebrates the 90th birthday of its founder and creator, Misha Mengelberg, with an evening full of surprises, virtuosity, and idiosyncratic beauty. Although Mengelberg is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the music. Full of anarchic humor, whimsical twists, and infectious melodic charm. In true ICP tradition, compositions and improvisations are seamlessly interwoven. Even more than ever, Mengelberg’s repertoire takes center stage tonight. From abstract miniatures to swinging eruptions – everything sounds new, different every night. The ensemble, comprised of nine unique voices, moves with playful ease between chaos and structure, tradition and innovation. A set at Orange Jazz that will be as unpredictable as it is captivating: a tribute that doesn’t commemorate the spirit of Mengelberg, but actively brings it to life.
