Peter Somuah Group

Peter Somuah is a gifted trumpeter, originally from Accra in Ghana, who learned to play by listening endlessly to his trumpet heroes Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Roy Hargrove, and playing in highlife bands. Somuah’s warm and melancholic sound is combined with a rhythmic prowess reflecting his upbringing surrounded by the music styles of West Africa. He is now based in the Netherlands and records for ACT. He has won an Erasmus Jazz award, an Edison Jazz Award, and been invited by the WDR Big Band to do a programme of his own compositions.
