
New Music and New Travels

In this section, we are happy to report about some new music and travels by inJazz alumni. This post is updated regularly. And if you have something to share, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Music
- On her long-awaited solo album If a tree falls in the forrest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?, Sanem Kalfa is present through voice, cello, electronics, and ukulele.
- Nicolò Ricci, well-known from Sun-Mi Hong Quintet (inJazz 2018) and Alessandro Fongaro’s Pietre (inJazz 2022), sees his compositions for chamber orchestra released on Schiacciasette, as created for the BIMHUIS REFLEX series.
- Out now is Seafarer, the second album by Loek van den Berg (inJazz 2023), recorded with the same quintet as its predecessor Wayfarer.
- NAUSYQA (inJazz 2024 & 2021) have presented their album PUNQ over the last couple of weeks on stages in the Netherlands.
- Blue Sands (bass guitarist Reindert Kragt and singer Esther van Hees, inJazz 2020) have released For You, featuring many guest players, to critical acclaim.
- Bienaventurada, an album of new work by Raquel Kurpershoek (inJazz 2023), will be released on 4 April. The single Ya Juntas Viviréis went online earlier.
- Also, make sure to check out Prepare To Die! by Ragnarök Trio – Thorkell Ragnar Grétarsson (guitar), Jens Meijer (drums), and Jesse Schilderink (tenor sax) – who blew us away at Batavierhuis during inJazz 2023.
- For Mark Lotz (inJazz 2024), 2025 will be all about his new ensemble Mandala Tribe, a synergetic combination in electronic music with Jazz and Indian music.
- And we’re looking forward to the release of Y.O.P.E.’s second album peer pleasure (out 26 February) and their release show in Paradiso.
- In the same club, we also see Marta Arpini presenting her new album, Tender Superpower (out 14 February).
- New Folk Jazz collective Goleine (a unisex name that means ‘harmony’), with double bass player Peter Willems (inJazz 2023) in the ranks, has released their debut album Goleine on April 4.
- Also on April 4, Prashant Samlal (inJazz 2021) released his new solo album Observing Thought.
Travels
- Mehmet Polat Quintet (inJazz 2021) is invited for a showcase performance at A to Jazz Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria and added some other Bulgarian shows from 3 to 6 July.
- Tijn Wybenga’s Brainteaser Orchestra (inJazz 2021) and other projects by the Orchestra members are at the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige end of June. See here for all dates.
- The eclectic and dynamic Wojtek Justyna TreeOh! will tour Germany in February.
- Great to see that NAUSYQA will play at Jazz I Am in Barcelona in March.
- Freek ‘kotokid’ Mulder (inJazz 2022) will be performing at Talinn Music Week in Estonia in April.
- Raquel Kurpershoek (inJazz 2023) and her trio have been invited to showcase their new songs at Atlantic Music Expo in Praia, Cape Verde, also in April.
- Also going to Cape Verde in April is CaboCubaJazz (inJazz 2011), with a small tour in Canada following the next month.
- Before showcasing jazzahead! 2025, Sam Newbould Quintet (inJazz 2021) has a 7-dates UK tour in April, including Brass Oranje.
- How wonderful to see that Sanem Kalfa Miraculous Layers (inJazz 2023) has been booked at Manchester Jazz Festival in May.
- Familiar faces Bram Stadhouders and Sjahin During are touring Iran and Turkey this spring with their Afro Anatolian Tales.
- NJJO will tour this summer and autumn, including two German dates, with their new artistic leader Reinier Baas (inJazz 2018).
- Fresh winner of the Paul Acket Award 2025, Sun-Mi Hong (inJazz 2018) will tour Germany and the Netherlands in May with her new album Fourth Page: Meaning of a Nest.
