Lucas Santana Trio

Brazilian saxophonist Lucas Figueiredo Santana (b. 1993) has become a notable voice on the European jazz scene since moving to Amsterdam in 2015, blending Brazilian traditions like samba-jazz and bossa nova with contemporary creative jazz. He has led his own ensembles, appeared with top Dutch big bands including The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and the Metropole Orkest, and shared stages with internationally acclaimed artists.
His recent album Bosquejos do Brasil (released December 2024) showcases his compositional voice through a mix of original pieces and reinterpretations of Brazilian classics, performed with a jazz quartet and string quartet.
Lucas was the inaugural creator for JOC Productions (Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw), premiering his ambitious large-ensemble project Candomblé—a suite exploring Afro-Brazilian heritage through music and dance.
He has earned recognition including the Keep an Eye Records Award and the DownBeat Magazine Small Jazz Combo award, reflecting both his technical skill and artistic depth.

Lucas Santana got inspired when he dove up an arrangement of Milton Nascimento’s famous composition Vera Cruz by the Dutch band Batida. Batida, with singer Josee Koning, was a successful band from the eighties that fused Brazilian music with jazz and funk.
