Raquel Kurpershoek
Raquel Kurpershoek Jaldón (1998, Amsterdam) is a Dutch-Spanish singer and composer. She studied Latin American music at the Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts, where she explored flamenco and Latin music, blending these and other traditions into her own compositions. In 2016, she won the Princess Christina Jazz Competition and the Zoetermeer Jazz Competition. In 2022, she received three international awards at the Andrea Parodi World Music Festival in Italy. Recently, she was awarded the Premio Nacional de Cultura de España, one of the country’s highest honors for cultural impact.
Recorded in Mexico and the Netherlands, her 2025 album Bienaventurada draws on inspiration from the poetry of Mexican poet Amado Nervo. Also, she says in an interview with inJazz, it refers to a deep sense of gratitude she experiences in her music, about life and the people around her. Sonically, it demonstrates how Raquel’s flamenco influences are complemented by a comfortable-sounding mix of Latin jazz and pop.
In this video, recorded in the music studios of worldofjazz.nl, Raquel performs with pianist Fran Rodríguez, bass player Mauro Méndez, and Danny Rombout on percussion.
Filmed and recorded live in July 2025.
