6 March: Transition to Equality – Mind the Gap!

On Friday, March 6, starting at 1:00 p.m., in the run-up to International Women’s Day, BiMpro will be putting female composers and lyricists in the spotlight with its annual Transition to Equality – Mind the Gap! event. BiMpro Auteurs is organizing this event at Grounds in Rotterdam in collaboration with Codarts, which is acting as host this year. The gathering draws attention to gender inequality in the music sector: according to recent figures from BumaStemra, only 16% of all composers and lyricists are women. With support from Buma Cultuur, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, and BiMpro Authors, the focus is on greater visibility and structural change. The afternoon features talks next to live performances by Federica Lorusso (piano) & Ketija Ringa (flute), classical pianist Elizabeth Goh, electronics/trumpet duo Mermaid Radio, and Gudrun Blok (vocals) & Sehee Kim (piano, both from the group HOUSD, winners of the Prinses Christina jazz competition). In the evening, the eight-woman group Las Hienas (photo) will perform at Grounds to mark the release of their first EP, entitled Nuestro Mundo.
