5 May 2021

This week, inJazz has announced the first and second act to be supported in 2021: Alexander and Tijn Wybenga & AM.OK.

Pianist, composer, arranger and producer Alexander van Popta grew up around the record collection of his parents. He graduated from the Rotterdam Conservatory, and was taught in New York by Aaron Parks. As a music director of the Re:Freshed Orchestra and as a sideman of Gregory Porter and Benjamin Herman, amongst others, he has performed around the world. With his band Alexander he recorded album Methods To Madness in 2020, a second album is expected in the fall of this year.

Inspired by the approach of hiphop legend J Dilla, Tijn Wybenga composes by sampling, stretching, cutting up and transforming exclusively recorded parts into new music to be played live. Talent development platform BIMHUIS Productions embraced Tyn’s vision and had him bring his musical dream to fruition: to form a fourteen-piece band called AM.OK, full of famous names from the Dutch jazz scene, with horns, rhythm section and string quartet.
