It is meant for new jazz too: Steunfonds Muzikantendag

26 April 2022

From the ‘corona package’ of support measures from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, € 600,000 is available via the Buma Cultuur platform ‘De Muzikantendag’ to support young creators – composers and lyricists – in the creation, recording and/or performance of new work. This Muzikantendag Steunfonds comprises 120 working grants of €5,000 and is intended as an investment in the creative process.

Young musicians who write and play their own music and have graduated from a music education programme in recent years, or who have already built up the necessary experience, can apply for a work grant. An independent assessment committee consisting of professionals from the music industry decides which applications are honoured.

The kick-off of this support fund will take place during Muzikantendag on Saturday 7 May 2022 in the Melkweg in Amsterdam. Applications for a work contribution can then be submitted from Saturday 21 May 2022 via the website The application period closes one month later on 20 June 2022. It is expected that the applications selected by the independent committee will be known by the end of July 2022.

At the end of 2022, the Muzikantendag Showcase Festival will take place. A number of acts and artists who have received a work grant will then be invited to perform their new repertoire live.
